Points of Sale — Stock Transfers
A point of sale is a place outside your workshop where your products are sold — a shop, a market stall, a consignment partner. You move stock between your workshop and a point of sale with a stock transfer, so SpoolIQ always knows how many units are where.
Opening a transfer
- Go to Showcase and open the Points of sale tab.
- On the point of sale’s row, click the Transfer stock button (the two arrows). The row’s Transfer history button (the clock) opens the list of transfers already recorded for that point of sale.
The dialog has two directions:
- Send to PoS — takes units out of the workshop and adds them to the point of sale.
- Return to workshop — brings units back from the point of sale.
When sending, each product option names both the product and the exact workshop position it comes from (for example “KC-001 · Keychain — Box 3”, with Available showing how many units that position can still send). The same product stored in two positions appears twice; each line sends only from the position it picked, shown under the line as From.
Availability is the stock at the moment the dialog loaded. It can change before you confirm — someone else sells or moves the same units — so SpoolIQ checks it again when you press Transfer, and refuses a line that no longer fits.
Unfinished transfers are kept as a draft
While you fill in a transfer, SpoolIQ keeps a copy of it — a draft — in the current browser tab. If the dialog closes, the page reloads, or you come back to the tab later, the next time you open a transfer for that same point of sale you’re shown:
“There is an unfinished transfer: N unit(s), saved at HH:MM.”
with two choices:
- Recover — puts the saved lines, quantities, shipping cost and packaging extras back into the form.
- Discard — deletes the draft and leaves the form empty.
Nothing happens until you choose. What you need to know about drafts:
- A draft is not a transfer. Recovering one moves no stock and sends nothing; it only fills the form. Stock moves only when you press Transfer and the transfer succeeds.
- Check before you send. After recovering, review every product, its From position and its quantity. Availability is checked again: a line whose position no longer has that product is marked “This product is no longer available at this source — choose again.” and the transfer can’t be sent until you fix it.
- A draft belongs to you, that point of sale, and that direction. It is only offered to the same signed-in user, for the same point of sale. Another user signing in on the same browser is not offered it.
- It lives only in this browser tab. Drafts are not saved to SpoolIQ’s servers and are not synchronized with other tabs, other browsers or other devices. Closing the tab, or clearing the browser’s site data, removes the draft.
- Drafts expire after 24 hours.
- A successful transfer deletes its draft. If the transfer is refused (for example, not enough stock), the draft stays so you can correct it and try again.
When SpoolIQ can’t confirm a transfer
If the connection drops, or the server answers with an error of its own, after you press Transfer, SpoolIQ can’t know whether the transfer was recorded. It may already have succeeded. In that case the dialog shows:
“We couldn’t confirm whether this transfer was recorded. Check the point of sale’s history before sending it again.”
and the Transfer button stays disabled. SpoolIQ never retries a transfer on its own.
- Click Open history. The point of sale’s history opens in a new tab, so the dialog stays as it is. Look for the transfer there.
- If it is there, it was recorded — don’t send it again. Close the dialog, and choose Discard when the draft is offered next time.
- If it is not there, go back to the dialog and click I checked — it was not recorded. Only then can you press Transfer again.
Never just press Transfer again “to be sure”: if the first attempt went through, a second one moves the same stock twice. This warning is kept with the draft: after a reload, recovering the draft brings the warning back too.
Where drafts are available
Drafts and draft recovery work in the transfer dialog opened from Showcase → Points of sale. The Transfer stock button in the app’s top bar (Transfer in the mobile bottom bar) opens a separate dialog that does not keep drafts — an unfinished transfer started there is not saved.
